Imaginary Beasts proudly presents…
The Crazy Locomotive by Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz
Translated by Daniel Gerould and C.S. Durer
Directed by Matthew Woods
Performing at The Plaza Black Box Theatre at the Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont Street, Boston.
It’s “all aboard!” a train of fools this April as the imaginary beasts ensemble takes audiences on a wild ride through the world of The Crazy Locomotive by Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz, one of Poland’s most original and audacious artists.
Written in 1923, this avant-garde gem serves as Witkiewicz’s indictment against futurism, the cinema, and the worship of the machine. Equal parts paradox and parody, metaphysics and mayhem, The Crazy Locomotive is a dream-like journey into madness.
When a small band of outcasts and super villains hijack a locomotive engine, they determine to race it full-throttle into an oncoming train in order to experience the very Mystery of Existence, but will their high-speed adventure send them headlong into another dimension, or are they only heading for disaster? In a world full of disguises where nothing is what it seems and people change identities at the drop of a hat – who and what will survive the ultimate judgment?
Combining the drama and thrill of pulp fiction and early cinema with the sensuality and suspense of the tango, The Crazy Locomotivewill have audiences on the edge of their seats.
Performances of THE CRAZY LOCOMOTIVE will take place at the Boston Center for the Arts Plaza Black Box Theatre, 539 Tremont Street, Boston, from April 1-2, 8-9, and 15-16 at 8 p.m.; April 6-7 and 13-14 at 7:30 pm; and April 2-3, 9-10, and 16 at 4:00 pm.
