New Exhibition Room with Elephant Tango Ensemble

Present

Story Time Preservation Hour

February 10-February 26

Press nights February 11 and February 12

Boston (MA) – After their debut at FringeNYC New Exhibition Room is back in 2011 with their first co-production Story Time Preservation Hour.  Story Time Preservation Hour features the original puppet theatre performance Baby Zombie by Elephant Tango Ensemble and NXR’s original adaptation of Robert Munsch’s The Paper Bag Princess, by A. Nora Long.

Paper Bag Princes – adapted and directed by A. Nora Long, Once upon a time Princess Elizabeth and Prince Ronald were on their way to happily ever after, when a terrible dragon burned down the kingdom and stole the Prince. Now the princess must attempt to defeat the beast and save her man. Sing a song or two with the Wandering Minstrel and keep the Princess company on her quest with this story for all ages.

"I've been carrying around The Paper Bag Princess for a long time now, and I'm thrilled that NXR has the opportunity take a stab at it with such a fantastic group of collaborators. It's a funny, irreverent, subversive story that I think will really resonate with audiences of all ages in different ways - like the Muppet Show or Sesame Street used to do.", says Artistic Director, Long.

Paper Bag Princess features the talents of Hannah Husband, Chuong Pham, Alex Simoes,  and Michelle .  The production crew consists of Mac Young (scenic), Cara Grace Pacifico (costume),  Bailey Costa (lights) and Chuong Pham (sound).

Paper Bag Princess is based on The Paper Bag Princess (1980), copyright Robert Munsch, published by Annick Press. Used with permission.

Baby Zombie - Elephant Tango Ensemble is pleased to announce their newest original work, Baby Zombie. Inspired by an idea from New Exhibition Room’s Dawn M. Simmons, Baby Zombie is a hilarious romp through the day in the life of an infant zombie.  Utilizing shadow puppetry, hand puppets, slide projection, and live music, Elephant Tango brings their unique combination of music, multimedia puppetry, and a huge dose of fun that both kids and adults will enjoy to the stage.

Puppeteer and Co-Director Karin Webb says, “I’m excited about this project because it is our most sophisticated venture yet into general audience puppetry... there really is something for everybody!”

Baby Zombie will showcase, in rotating duets, original puppets and puppeteering by Karin Webb, Lainey SchoolTree and Natasha Sorokin, with music composed and performed by Valerie Thompson & Brendan Burns.  To view complete schedule, or to learn more about the madcap adventures of the ETE, visit ElephantTango.com

Story Time Preservation Hour will run for three weeks February 10 – February 26 at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre located at 949 Commonwealth Avenue.  All tickets are $10.  To purchase tickets please visit www.newexhibitionroom.org or call 866-811-4111.

About New Exhibition Room:

In 1792, a group of Bostonians flouted state law and traditional rhetoric by building a theatre. The New Exhibition Room packed houses for several months before being closed by the authorities. The public outcry that ensued eventually caused the repeal of the state's theatrical bans. Some years later, another group of Bostonians have come together to resurrect New Exhibition Room to build new work, engage local artists and once again get people riled up about theatre.
